The ride to Rapid city was probably the toughest leg so far. It took over 12 hours by the time we made it into our hotel, which for $35.99 a night is pretty damn nice. Actually, much nicer than our crappy Chicago hotel! The ride started with some angry Minnesotans riding our bumper. Now we were going 10 mph above the speed limit so it wasn’t like we were crawling. When the 4X4 with husband and wife get the chance to pass, they do, and the wife in the passenger seat starts flapping her arms like a chicken at Mark! Can you believe it? How rude!!!

So we found the lowest gas so far somewhere in Minneapolis at $1.78/gallon! Pretty damn good! We also got a couple more license plates: Utah, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and we know its hard to believe but we also saw ALASKA! We took a picture for proof! Big excitement. We also discovered books on tape, which are LIFESAVERS! We read/listened to the Rule of Four. Highly recommend! We finished up with that around noon which meant 8 long hours of driving Route 90 which in a nutshell is farm after farm after farm after farm…..oh, wait, and LOTS of billboards. You learn that sometimes….there is just nothing to say J

We stopped at the oh so exciting Corn Palace, which when I told Mark we were going, he mistook it for the PORN palace. Needless to say we were both disappointed! We also drove through the badlands and stopped at the famous Wall Drug. Now wall has a population of 818 people and 1/3 of them are employed at Wall Drug. Crazy! Mark was skeptical but I managed to convince him to eat at the good old Cactus Café in Wall South Dakota for dinner….and it was gooooood!

Off to see the rest of the South Dakota tourist attractions tomorrow and then we are off to Littleton, Colorado.
